The faces behind MBSA

Medical Biochemistry Students’ Association was founded to represent those who form a part of the Medical Biochemistry course, as well as all those who study medical research. We vow to provide services to better student life socially, culturally and academically. We will work continuously towards reaching our aim and are honoured to be part of MBSA, the medical researchers in the making.

THE TEAM

SHAKED CHASANMUS

Vice President

I chose Medical Biochemistry because I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of writing the book rather than just reading it- understanding the deeper mechanisms of life instead of simply memorizing them. It’s a course that lets me explore how the body truly works, and that curiosity inspires me every day. I chose the Vice President role so I can share that message with others, showing them that Medical Biochemistry isn’t just about learning facts, but about discovering how to write the book yourself, while leading, supporting, and helping our team reach our goals.

My name is Cher Attard, and since a young age, I’ve been fascinated by science and its ability to achieve what society once deemed impossible. I have a particular interest in cancer biology, metabolism, and cell biology, areas which the Medical Biochemistry course has helped me explore in depth over the past three years. As Secretary General of MBSA, I am dedicated to giving this course the recognition it deserves and encouraging more young people to join with the same enthusiasm I experienced. Furthermore, I am genuinely excited to be part of the student organization this year and am happy to do my best to help us achieve new opportunities and activities that will help the organization grow.

JULIAN COPPINI

Treasurer

Medical Biochemistry for me was a genuine ‘shot-in-the-dark’. I had started the course unsure of what to pursue at University, and I can wholeheartedly say that the shot, did indeed find its mark. Medical Biochemistry as a course has made me a more academically rounded person, and has given me some of the closest people in my life. It will forever be a cornerstone in the story of my life, and is certainly a launchpad into the medical world that I would highly recommend to anyone. As Treasurer, I aim to help the MBSA from a financial perspective and ensure that any events or activities hosted by the MBSA will be properly financed - as my way of giving back to the course that gave me so much.

GIULIA GOUDER

Public Relations Officer

My name is Giulia Gouder and I am a third year medical biochemistry student. I am currently conducting research on eosinophil activation by host-derived cytokines in inflammatory microenvironments, specifically sepsis. I aim to further my studies in forensic science, a field that has peaked my interest in its unique ways of connecting science and helping people.

Beyond the lab, I’m passionate about communication, collaboration, and engagement, all which contribute to forwarding our cause as scientists and researchers to understanding how things work. As MBSA’s Public Relations Officer I aim to bridge science and society by translating our complex findings into impactful messages, and also strive to widen connections within and beyond our community.

Studying Medical Biochemistry has deepened my love for molecular medicine and genetics , and shown me how research at a molecular-level can support human health. This course has helped me find my passion, and in the future I wish to contribute in the development of targeted therapies and diagnostic tools. As Creative Director of MBSA I wish to help the organization grow by improving our public presence by creating engaging content to show the value of our community. I am very excited to show what the 2025/2026 MBSA Exec has to offer!!
